letter to a younger me...

Dear Younger Marquesas,

Hello you darling little brownie you! It's me, older you. Weird huh? First of all let me just say. You are beautiful. I know you have huge, gappy teeth and you're probably wearing your dads tee-shirt and wicker shoes but you are still absolutely precious.

Don't listen to that blond haired blue eyed boy when he says otherwise. If only he could see you now. He probably ended up bald and syphilitic anyway. Don't worry about what syphilis is, you'll never need to know that.

Soon you are going to wake up (the morning after the Girl Scout cake bake in fact) and your whole life will be different forever. Ya know how you always feel like you have to close the door 17 times before you feel safe and you cant step on cracks with out saying a prayer that you mama won't die? Well, that's nothing compared to whats about to hit you. But don't be scared. You are NOT crazy. I know it will seem like you are but trust me. It's just Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. You won't find out that's this is the monsters name for years and years but I'm telling you now. It's OCD. And it's not who you are, it's just a part of you. Don't be afraid. You are stronger than you 'll ever understand.

Remember how Daddy always tells you NOT to ride on the handle bars of your big sisters bike? LISTEN TO HIM! And save your self a round of plastic surgery! (While you're at it avoid Doberman Pincers as well.)

Sign up for singing/piano/guitar lessons for crying out loud! You LOVE music and they will come in handy later! (believe it or not you're gonna sing in a rock band!)

Go visit Mema more often. She won't live forever even though it seems like she'll always be around. You won't find out until after she's passed how truly alike the two of you were.

Never try a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO THERE!

Boys may call you pancake and surfboard and you sister will tell you that the walls are jealous of your flatness but the joke is totally on them! You are gonna have HUGE boobs someday.
(and you're actually not gonna like em so much. sorry!)

When you disagree with friends, just let it go and move on. Don't waste precious time and memories on holding grudges. It's not worth it. In the end it doesn't matter who was right or wrong.

When you meet a boy named Drew in the parking lot of the church, grab him and hold on tight. He is your perfect match in every way. He will bring more happiness to your life than you ever thought possible. Be good to him. You will have to say good bye to him for a long time but I promise in the end the two of you will find your way back together. (ps skip dating while he's away. Trust me.)

A lot of things come naturally to you. You are great at making friends. Never take that for granted.

A lot of things DO NOT come naturally to you. Don't be a quitter. When you fail GET UP and TRY AGAIN!

Most of all I want you to know that you are wonderful. You are strong and you don't have to be afraid. There will be times when you are so low that you feel nothing will ever be ok again. I Promise it will. Actually it will be better than ok. You actually turn out all right. So, be silly, giggly and kind and I'll see ya in the mirror in about 20 years!

Love you silly girl,

Marquesas

I got the idea for this post from the beautiful Rasha. If you've got a minute hop over and enjoy her "Tell Me A Secret Tuesday" It' s great fun!

Happy Day

M
