a challenge issued...a present opened...

Yesterday during Mr. Blimes' and my delicious lunch hour I got a frazzled call from my mother... "Jasmine is making a CHEESE CAKE for Christmas dinner!!!"

Why is this a big deal you may wonder... well, it's kind of a known fact in my family that I BAKE THE CHEESECAKES!!! It's the one thing I make that is consistently awe-inspiring (not to give myself too much credit) but seriously, I can bake a pretty mean cheesecake...

So, why why why is my dear sister attempting to usurp my heralded position as Dessert Queen of the family??? You can't imagine how frantic I became as I hung up the phone... I turned to Mr. Blimes and broke the shattering news... he confidently assured me that my dear sisters cheesecake could never compare to the ones I make... (a very sweet sentiment hubby, but everything my sister touches turns to gold, it's true ladies I swear.)

Panic And Confusion Set In... Now what am I going to bring to Christmas dinner???

Yes, I do realize that anyone who so desires has the right to bake a cheesecake but my own sister??? On Christmas???

During our afternoon carpool home Mr. Blimes suggested (again) that I open one of my Christmas presents early. This is an everyday occurrence (everyday several times a day) so I didn't think much of it and tried to placate him and change the subject... "If you wait until Christmas to open this one" he said, "you'll wish you hadn't." I was intrigued... I thought for sure it was going to be a special "new mommy" pre-birth gift of some sort (sweet sweet hubbs, always so thoughtful.)

It wasn't.
