Mighty Mighty Good Man

This past Saturday I was awakened at 7am by a soft kiss and a whispered "I love you Bagel" (Drew's pet name for me since we were first married and I worked in a pre-school just next door to a bagel shop... I had a bagel EVERY morning back then)... I proceeded to roll over and go back to sleep (like any sane person would do at 7am on a Saturday).

Moments later I was disturbed again by a rustling coming from what sounded like the nursery... I had to investigate. I walked in the freshly decorated room to find Mr. Blimes sorting, folding and hanging up all the baby clothes he could find...

WHAT?

Who is this man and where did my mess making, chore fearing Boobie go??? ( I guess I should have seen this coming when the night before he meticulously assembled both a stroller and a bouncy seat in less than 45 minutes)...

He then proceeded to take the crib sheet and mattress off and place the water-proof liner on ...gingerly putting every piece of bedding back in its perfect place afterwards, he then assembled the babies socks, booties and hats into organized spots on the shelves, gathered all diapering paraphernalia into one neat pile on the closet shelf and started asking me repetitively,

"Where should this go?"

"Where do you want your nursing pads and bras?"

"What parts do we need for this boob pumper?"

I sat in the glider in shock and awe with Mable perched on my shoulder... Waves of love washing over me as he sat on the nursery floor in his undies, smiled over my way and neatly folded each tiny onezie. I wondered if I should have stayed in bed and let him have these precious moments preparing for the arrival of his first son alone but selfishly I am so happy to have witnessed it.

In that moment I realized all over again what made me fall in love with this man. He truly has the most kind heart. It's the kind of heart that you always know is there, waiting for the moment when it's needed the most. The kind of heart that peeps out just when things are starting to feel like their falling apart and shines love and protection all around till the world is bright again. I must learn Mama Blimes' great secret to creating such a wonder, for my son too must become a man with a heart like that.
