inspiration.

Tonight, I held Miles while he fell asleep instead of our usual bedtime routine. He was so peaceful and calm and still. I didn't want to let him go. There isn't much stillness in his waking hours these days. It seems I am always removing him from some danger or another or telling him "no" or running ragged trying to keep his busy little mind and body occupied.
I want to let him explore and discover everything, but I know he needs boundaries. I have encountered children with no boundaries and it is not (in my opinion) pretty. Today I did however let him get into the baby proofed cabinet under the kitchen sink and remove all the items from the tool box. He thoroughly enjoyed himself. (I spent ten minutes picking up nails, screws and staples after he was finished but he had a good time.)
The faster he grows, the more I want to freeze time. I miss baby Miles. I LOVE two year old Miles of course but I long for those snuggly nights when he shared the big bed with Drew and I. I almost let him sleep with us last night.
Why does no one tell you how heart wrenching motherhood is?  How fast they change and how there are never enough hours in the day to hold them close and kiss their tiny cheeks?
I know with each stage he goes through there will be wonderful, exciting milestones to celebrate but in this moment I just wish he'd stay my snuggly tiny guy forever.

sigh.

A couple days ago I see Miles stumbling down the hall with my yoga mat and a very determined look upon his face. He drags the mat to the middle of the living room where he proceeds with the daunting task of unfurling the sticky mat. He gets it smoothed out to his liking and then Drew and I watch with anticipation/confusion  as he steps on to it and kneels down.

Yoga?

Some other silly, cutest baby on the planet antic designed to make us smile?

He then folds his arms, bows his head and squeezes his little eyes tightly shut.

"Dear Heavily Podder,"  mumble....mumble....mumble.... "Mommy," ...... more incoherent baby speak... "Daddy,"....... "Mamel"......"Amen."

BEST. DAY. EVER.

Parenthood has so many great perks.

because this picture reminds me of every good thing.

I love you Miles. You make everyday better than the last and all my moments worth it. Happy napping baby boy, see you when you wake!

tuesday.

Today was one of those accidentally wonderful ones. You know, the kind when you ditch your 5:30am wake up call and instead open your eyes an hour later and see the most beautiful creature you've ever laid eyes on nuzzling your elbow pit.

Miles and I called in sick today and spent most of our morning in bed sleeping, then nursing, sleeping some more and nursing again. I knew it was going to be a good day. The good ones always start out with the same feeling.

I often wonder what the life of a true stay at home mother must be like. I can only imagine it to be wonderful. Filled with make believe and adventures, kisses, hugs and magic. I know how lucky I am to be able to bring Miles with me to work. I am blessed beyond what I deserve. But some days (well, most days) I wish I could be like so many of my wonderful friends and fellow bloggers and just be home with my baby all day everyday. My mind clung to many thoughts like that today while I rocked Miles and read him stories and helped him practice sitting and laughing.

I honestly enjoy domesticity. I love cooking, cleaning and taking care of my husband and child. I love that part at the end of the day when I know Drew will be home soon and I'll get to be part of the happy reunion he and Miles share everyday. I like having the house all clean and smelling nice so that when he walks through the door he feels peace and calm. I probably sound like a total stepford wife... I've just been having lots of thoughts today. Hence me sitting here at 11:39 at night with insomnia...had to get some of these thoughts out.

Things will soon be changing again around here and I am waiting to see what Heavenly Father has up his sleeve. I know He has a plan. I know he does. I just wish I knew what it was.

Goodnight all, it's time to put this wonderful day (and hopefully these weary thoughts)to rest...for now.

All the pictures on this post are from our trip to NC. It was an amazing get away and we can't wait to get back there!

Yet another classic family portrait.

You gotta double click this one and really take in Miles' expression. (so adorable)

The most breath taking view.

And some of the most beautiful souls I've ever met.

we are officially morning people.

Wouldn't you be as well if this is what you woke up to every morning???

I can't believe how adorable my son is. (my son) It sounds so magical saying that.

I have a son.

Motherhood I must say is actually easier than I anticipated. I guess I tried to prepare myself for the worst... all night scream-a-thons, colic, reflux...whatever madness the baby gods decided to curse us with... somehow we remain unscathed (and so grateful).
While Miles has his share of fits and crying (the poor child is cutting teeth already for pete's sake) overall he is one of the most pleasant babies I've ever encountered. He loves to read books and be held. He took right to breastfeeding and is getting to be quite the little chunker. He wakes up with a smile every morning and is pretty much content all day...until he gets tired. Tired Miles is no fun at all... thats another story though. He recently discovered he can suckle his fingers. He loves this and so do we (no more paci game). Mkay, I'm just gonna list some of the adorable new things baby boy is up to lately...

Playing with his toes... this is so so cute he is very interested in them and just holds onto them and stares.

Rolling onto his sides...this is especially fun when you're playing with him and he gets really excited and throws his legs into the air and rolls whichever way the weight of his legs take him.

Squealing... oh. my. gosh. Love this so much. Daddy gets the very best squeals (and smiles for that matter) when they are playing. Miles' voice is the sweetest sound I think I've ever heard (even when it's volume makes my ears bleed)

Reading... he LOVES LOVES LOVES to be read to. He stares so intently at the books and loves the silly sounds and interactions that go along with each different story.

Strolling... Everyday Miles and I take a nice, hour long walk. It's one of the happiest hours of his day. He just takes the whole outside world in and enjoys the breeze, I am so glad he likes to be outside, we have that in common.

I know this is an extra long post but I just don't wanna forget these little things about him that make me so happy. And I bet there's a certain YaYa in a distant land that will quite enjoy the updates!

Just FYI the little "T"'s are the way he is ALWAYS making the sign language "T" with his right hand... so so adorable...also since making these lists baby boy has learned how to grab his toes...my new favorite!!!

There are so many many lovable things about him, he is the best part of our day!

dear mommy,

Sometimes you like to put me in clothes that I'm not quite ready for yet... but I love you anyway.

"don't shoot my baby."

This picture was taken as I attempted to comfort my baby boy after his first shots... being two months old is hard. He was a real champ about it all though. He didn't mind the actual shots as much as the oral vaccine (he gurgled and choked and screamed) saddest. sight. ever. Luckily Daddy was there to get us all through it. Big strong Daddy makes everything ok, always.

Here's the two month rundown...

*23 1/2" tall

*11 lbs 7oz

*vaccines for hepB, diptheria, polio, tetanus, pertussis, pneumococcal disease (took me 3 tries to spell that one), rotavirus and hib. CHECK!

Baby is ready to take on the world... or at least a gaggle of aunts, uncles, cousins and one granny!!!

We had a really great trip to Tampa this weekend!

Miles was swarmed with love and kisses from our family and Mr. Blimes and I got to take an afternoon out!!! There was putt putt-ing, delicious chocolate chip cookies, Denny's, shopping and of course much much cuteness from nieces and nephs.

Hubbs putted with the boy strapped to him and STILL dominated. (it's just not fair)

The gang before we putted...and right after I tried to fall into the gator pit (don't ask)

Oh Mongolian BBQ how I love love love your deliciousness!!!

Like I said, it was a great weekend.
